Yes, Jesus can save, but not much else.  That is what some Christians reflect to the world, when we believe in Jesus for salvation, but trust ourselves for daily living.  When we depend on our intelligence, talents, material possessions, or family to help us.  God wants us to rely on Him alone.  On whom do you depend and give glory to?

We should not become lazy and complacent because Christ has not yet returned.  Instead, our lives should express our eager expectation of His coming.  What would you like to be doing when Christ returns?  Is that the way you are living each day?

Portions of commentary from Charles Stanley’s In Touch Devotional, December 10, 2016, and The One Year NIV Devotional New Testament, December 11.
