Envy

Got Light?

It is no surprise how frequently the Bible uses “light” as a symbol for spiritual awakening and salvation.  Jesus said He was “the light of the world” (John 8:12); and when He left earth, He designated His followers to be that light: “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14)  “You”, not “Your Pastor” only, or “Your neighbor”, but YOU.

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are the light of the world!  Let your life be a source of light-what Jesus called “your good works”-so the lost will be drawn to Christ in you.

“The gospel is light but only the Spirit can give sight.”  A. W. Tozer

Let your light so shine before men,

that they may see your good works

and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Deduction

Nothing good or profitable ever comes from envy.  It only creates misery for the envious person.  Envy, and jealousy, only take their place at the table when we allow them to.  Stay far away from this one, unless you aren’t concerned about a deduction from your spiritual health account.

“The man who keeps busy helping the man below him won’t have time to envy the man above him”,  The Christian Herald.

So, did you catch that?  Serving, humility, “the man who keeps busy helping”.  That sounds like real wisdom to me!  Even better than having our focus and priorities in the right place, I could have an even nobler perspective.  How about being happy for someone who has plenty?

Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming,

but who can stand before jealousy?
