Galatians

Not Just a New Addition

Scripture is clear about how we are to be saved: When we trust in the Savior’s atoning sacrifice on our behalf, we don’t simply add Jesus to our life – a new nature replaces the old sinful one, and we become a brand-new creation. Jesus completely exchanges His life for our deadness.

Produce

Although we don’t rejoice in adversities themselves, we can find hope, joy, and peace in knowing that our difficulties aren’t in vain. God may be refining our character and melting away things that don’t reflect Christ. If we submit to whatever road the Lord has chosen for us, His Spirit will guide us and – slowly but surely – produce His fruit.

Here, sowing to the flesh means pandering to the flesh’s evil desires.  Corruption is the word meaning degeneration, as in decaying food.  Sin always corrupts and, when left unchecked, always makes a person progressively worse in character.

Commentary from the MacArthur study Bible, notes for Galatians 6:8.

Commentary from the MacArthur study Bible, notes for Galatians 5:14.
