Good works

Got Light?

img_1581

It is no surprise how frequently the Bible uses “light” as a symbol for spiritual awakening and salvation.  Jesus said He was “the light of the world” (John 8:12); and when He left earth, He designated His followers to be that light: “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14)  “You”, not “Your Pastor” only, or “Your neighbor”, but YOU.

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are the light of the world!  Let your life be a source of light-what Jesus called “your good works”-so the lost will be drawn to Christ in you.

“The gospel is light but only the Spirit can give sight.”  A. W. Tozer

Let your light so shine before men,

that they may see your good works

and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

In a self-serve/customer service/choices galore culture, we may have an inclination to self ( I wonder why!).  We don’t have to focus on self though.  Other options (more options!!) are:

  • serve God
  • serve others

We can allow God to supply what we need, and He will, while we focus on Him and on others.  The degree of surrender determines the degree of God’s ‘footprint’ in your life.  Less of you makes room for more of Him (John 3:30).
