We Can Miss God’s Will

Why do we sometimes have trouble understanding His plan? Sometimes we make decisions based on emotions. When life gets hard, our instinct is to move away from the source of pain – but in reality, we need to move closer to Jesus. When we figure He couldn’t possibly want us to feel this way, we’re more prone to take action and hope that we’re in His will. But then we’re actually focusing on ourselves instead of God’s plan. Also, we tend to focus only on the immediate. Many times we come to God troubled about the choices we or our loved ones are facing. We do not see how the situation could possibly be His will. Our short-term focus prevents us from seeing the Lord’s long-term purposes.

God’s Purpose in Hardship

In the lives of both Esther (Book of Esther) and Joseph (Genesis 37-50) we read about how the Lord orchestrated events to achieve His purposes. The events that unfolded in the lives of Esther and Joseph were challenging, but the Lord was faithful. Our heavenly Father is arranging the events of your life too, and in the process, you also are being tested by His Word. Your difficulties in no way indicate that the Lord is absent. Instead, He oversees the events of your life and works them to fulfill His long-term purpose for you.
